How to get your IT compliant with GDPR in 3 Easy Steps

by | May 11, 2018 | GDPR

Everybody is talking about GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation), which is coming into force on 25th May 2018. The official Guide by the ICO can be found here – but what does that actually mean when it comes to all things IT?

GDPR Harrogate

As part of the directive, business owners have a duty to protect the data they hold.

The 3 Steps to Compliance

1. Encryption

2. Backups

3. Software Security

None of these are new concepts and should be in place in every business anyway.

1. Encryption

Don’t think you need to? Think again.

Whether you are self-employed, run a small business or a large enterprise, you have a duty to protect yours and your customers’ data from prying eyes.

Not sure how to encrypt or what it’s all about? Read more in our blog “What is encryption and do I need it?”.

2. Backups

We all know we need to back up our data, but we also need to keep that backup safe (and encrypted) and make sure we really have done our best in case of data loss.

Not sure how to back up? Read more in our blog “Back up – the easy way”.

3. Software Security

Make sure that the software you are using is up-to-date and GDPR compliant. Start by making a list of what you actually use – get rid of things you don’t. Make sure you to have up-to-date and licensed Antivirus installed.

Are you satisfied that your Antivirus protection is sufficient? Read more in our blog “The best things in life are free?”.
